Google Pixel 9a: What to expect

Google Pixel 9a is rumoured to feature a 6.3-inch Actua display with 120Hz refresh rate. This means that the phone will sport the same size as the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro. However, the leaked images show a much different design language. According to these images, published by Android Headlines, Google might do away with the camera bump and insert the camera right into the body. It is rumoured to boast a sturdy body with round edges.

Coming to performance, it will be powered by the Tensor G4 chipset, coupled with 8GB RAM and either 128GB or 256GB storage. Previous leaks suggest that the phone will pack a 5,000mAh battery capacity with 18W charging speed. If this holds to be true, the upcoming Pixel 9a will have an 11 per cent bigger battery than the Pixel 8a. Since the phone is expected to be bigger, it is easier to believe that the battery will also be bigger.

On the connectivity front, the Pixel 9a is rumored to include the Exynos Modem 5300, a reliable but older modem that was previously used in the Pixel 8 series. This modem, while capable, is a step down from the newer Exynos Modem 5400 in the Pixel 9 series, which offers better efficiency and more advanced 5G features. However, for many users, the 5300 should provide stable network performance, making it a practical choice for daily tasks.

The leaks have also indicated that the phone will feature a 48-megapixel primary camera and a 13-megapixel ultra-wide camera. It will also feature a 13-megapixel front camera for selfies and video calls.

The Pixel 9a's dimensions have increased slightly due to its larger screen, now measuring 154.7 x 73.3 x 8.9mm and weighing 186g. Interestingly, despite the size increase, Google has managed to make the Pixel 9a lighter than the Pixel 8a, which weighed 188g.

Last but not least, the Pixel 9a could still be priced at $499 (around Rs 42,000). That’s the same price tag as the Pixel 8a. In India, the Pixel 8a had launched at Rs 52,999 for the 8+128GB model and Rs 59,999 for the 8+256GB variant.
