Taoiseach Simon Harris will today chair an Online Safety Summit in Government Buildings.

The purpose of the summit is to ensure the new Online Safety Framework is implemented.

The Taoiseach and ministers will be briefed by regulators, as well as An Garda Síochána, on progress to date and how the Government can support their work in Ireland and in the EU.

Speaking ahead of the summit, the Taoiseach said he wanted to make sure that there is a very clear legal understanding in Ireland and across the EU that the online world does not operate in some sort of parallel universe.

"The obligations that apply offline in terms of abiding by the laws of the land also need to apply online," he said.

The regulators who will attend today's meeting include Coimisiún na Meán, the Data Protection Commission, the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, ComReg and An Comisiún Toghcháin.

The Taoiseach also plans to meet wider stakeholders including children and vulnerable groups.
