Texas Neighborhoods on Alert After Multiple Mountain Lion Sightings
· NewsTalk 1290Mountain lions are amazing creatures that are rarely seen by humans but several communities in North Texas have reported an uptick in big cat sightings.
Mountain Lions are relatively uncommon, secretive animals according to Texas Parks & Wildlife. Several North Texans Have Reported Seeing A Mountain Lion Prowling In Their Neighborhoods.
The first reported sighting this week took place in Frisco near Lake Lewisville. Frisco officials and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department confirmed a sighting that was captured on a homeowner’s security camera on Monday.
But it wasn't the first sighting nor would it be the last. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department confirmed a reported mountain lion sighting in the Lake Dallas area on October 27 and said that they would be monitoring its movement using camera traps.
Mountain lions can move dozens of miles a day and wildlife officials believe the big cat is just passing through.
After the Frisco sighting, on the other side of Lake Lewisville, campers at an RV park spotted the mountain lion prowling through their neighborhood and several neighbors captured footage of the animal on their security cameras.
Biologists said the mountain lion is believed to be a juvenile male simply passing through as it searches for a place to establish itself and call home. If you do spot a mountain lion, keep your distance, don't approach it and contact animal control services immediately.
