It has been a mild start to November, but Met Eireann says we can expect colder weather in a matter of days as temperatures could plunge to -2 degrees.

There will be dry and sunny conditions early in the week, but rain will return from mid week onwards.

Today (Saturday November 9) will be dull with highs of 12 to 15 degrees.

A Met Eireann forecaster said: "Today will be mostly cloudy with a fair amount of dry weather and some patches of mist. Patchy rain or drizzle also, becoming more persistent at times in the south and west. Highest temperatures of 12 to 15 degrees with light to moderate southeast winds.

"Tonight will be mostly cloudy with light rain or drizzle at times and patches of mist. Lowest temperatures of 8 to 12 degrees with mostly light southerly breezes."

Tomorrow (Sunday November 10) will see the return of some sunshine.

Met.ie says: "Sunday will start off mostly cloudy with patchy rain, drizzle and mist. Brighter, sunnier weather will develop in the northwest and will extend to most areas by the end of the day as the rain, drizzle and mist gradually clear to the southeast. Highest temperatures of 11 to 15 degrees with light west to northwest breezes."

Things will become cooler on Monday night (November 11):

"Monday will be dry with sunny spells. Highest temperatures of 10 to 13 degrees with light, variable breezes. Monday night will be dry with clear spells and some patches of mist or fog. Lowest temperatures of 0 to 4 degrees with a touch of grass frost in places."

Tuesday night (November 12) will be colder again:

"Tuesday will continue dry bright or sunny spells. Highest temperatures or 9 to 12 degrees with light variable breezes. Tuesday night will be cold with clear spells and with frost in places. Lowest temperatures of -2 to +2 degrees."

Looking ahead to the weather for the remainder of the week, Met Eireann says conditions on Friday (November 15) and the weekend will be "quite cold" with "frost in places at night".
