Van driver, 80s, dies in horror road crash in Meath as two others are rushed to hospital

The two occupants of the other vehicle were rushed from the scene by ambulance to hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment for injuries

A man aged in his 80s has died following a two-vehicle crash in Co. Meath.

He was driving a van when it collided with a car on the R162 between Nobber and Kingscourt Road around 5pm this evening.

The two occupants of the car were taken to hospital by ambulance and are currently receiving treatment. Gardaí are currently at the scene of the incident.

The road is currently closed to traffic pending a technical examination by forensic investigators, and local diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the collision to come forward.

“Gardaí are currently at the scene of a fatal road traffic collision in Nobber, County Meath. The collision occurred at approximately 5pm this evening, Tuesday 15th October 2024 on the R162 Nobber to Kingscourt Road,” said a spokesperson.

“The two-vehicle collision involved a car and a van. The driver of the van, a male aged in his 80s, was fatally injured during the collision.

“The two occupants of the second vehicle were taken to hospital by ambulance services and are currently receiving medical treatment,” they confirmed.

“The scene of the collision is currently preserved for a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. The R162 Kingscourt to Nobber road is currently closed to traffic and local diversions are in place. The road will remain closed overnight.”

Any road users with camera footage who were travelling between Navan and Kingscourt on Tuesday evening between 4.30pm and 5.30pm are asked to provide it to investigating Gardaí.
