Oasis set to cancel 50,000 tickets for reunion shows
by Sarah Lumley, Seamus Duff, Chiara Rinaldi · DevonLiveOasis fans who spent hundreds of pounds on tickets have been warned to prepare for disappointment - as up to 50,000 tickets for the band's reunion tour in 2025 are set to be cancelled.
The Gallagher brothers Noel and Liam, aged 57 and 52 respectively, had their fans in a frenzy over the summer as they finally set aside their long-running feud dating back 15 years, and announced a series of reunion tour dates in Cardiff, Manchester, Edinburgh, London, and Dublin, in the summer of next year.
Over 10 million fans from 158 countries joined the Ticketmaster queue back in August, all scrambling to secure one of just 1.4 million tickets that went on sale.
And the band's promoters clearly warned people ahead of the sale that only tickets purchased at face value through Ticketmaster, or its resale partner, Twickets, would be valid for entry to the show.
However, despite this, the BBC was told that four per cent of tickets ended up on resale sites - a total of almost 50,000 tickets. As a result, Live Nation has now announced that it will soon begin the process of cancelling all tickets believed to have broken the terms and conditions enforced by the band.
The Daily Mirror has reported that these voided tickets are set to be re-listed on Ticketmaster at their initial sale price. A spokesperson for Live Nation and SJM, the promoters behind the Oasis tour, told the BBC: "These terms and conditions were successfully put in place to take action against secondary ticketing companies reselling tickets for huge profit.
"Only four per cent of tickets have ended up on resale sites. Some major tours can see up to 20% of tickets appearing via the major unauthorised secondary platforms."
However, despite the imminent threat of resale tickets being cancelled, resale site viagogo has stated that it plans to continue selling Oasis tickets on its site.
Matthew Drew, head of business development at viagogo, told the BBC: "Two per cent of Oasis tickets are on viagogo and StubHub. We will continue to sell them in the way the regulator says we can. We are serving a clear consumer need, we will continue doing it on that basis."
