A Met Eireann forecaster said: "This morning will start mostly cloudy with patches of mist and drizzle. Later in the morning, rain will move into the south and will spread northwards across the country during the afternoon and evening. The rain will be heavy at times, particularly in the south and east. Mild and humid with highest temperatures of 14 to 16 degrees, in a light to moderate southeasterly wind, occasionally fresh and gusty later.

"Tonight will be cloudy with outbreaks of rain, heavy for a time in the northeast and east with a chance of isolated thunderstorms. There will be hill and coastal mist and fog too. Mild and humid with lowest temperatures of 11 to 14 degrees, in a light to moderate southeasterly wind, occasionally fresh and gusty early in the night."

Tomorrow (Wednesday October 16) will see lingering rain in the morning, but this will gradually clear as the day goes on, paving the way for a very mild October day.

Met.ie says: "Tomorrow morning will be mostly cloudy with scattered outbreaks of rain. This will linger in parts of the north and east through the day, but there will be a clearance to sunny spells and some showers across the south and west. Highest temperatures of 15 to 18 degrees with light to moderate southerly winds.

"Any remaining cloud and rain will clear from the northeast early on Wednesday night and the rest of the night will be dry in most areas with clear spells and patches of mist and fog. However, there'll be showers in some western and southern areas, some heavy. Lowest temperatures of 8 to 12 degrees in light to moderate southerly breezes."

Thursday (October 17) will be mild with sunny spells and a chance of a thunder.

The weather forecast reads: "Mild with sunny spells and scattered showers, some heavy with a chance of thunder. The showers will become isolated by evening. Highest temperatures of 13 to 16 degrees in light to moderate southerly or westerly breezes.

"Mostly dry with clear spells early on Thursday night, however cloud and outbreaks of rain will move into the west and will spread eastwards across the country overnight. Lowest temperatures of 7 to 12 degrees with moderate to fresh and gusty southerly winds developing."
