Ireland weather: Met Eireann issues warning as thunderstorms and rain to lash three counties

There is bad news for three Irish areas as they are set to be lashed out of it with storms also expected - Carlow, Wexford and Wicklow have a rough few hours ahead

Met Eireann issued a warning to three Irish counties this evening ahead of thunderstorms and.

A Status Yellow rain already has been put in place for Carlow, Wexford and Wicklow.

The warning came into force at 6pm and it will remain active until midnight with localised flooding, travel disruption and hazardous travelling conditions all expected in the region.

The alert said: "Heavy rain with embedded thunderstorms. Possible impacts include localised flooding, travel disruption and hazardous travelling conditions."

There will be rain right across the east for the rest of the night, but temperatures won't significantly drop.

Met Eireann said: "Tonight will be cloudy with outbreaks of rain, heavy for a time particularly in the northeast and east with a chance of isolated thunderstorms.

"There will be hill and coastal mist and fog too. Mild and humid with temperatures not falling below 11 to 14 degrees in light to moderate southeasterly winds."

There will be further rain tomorrow, again there will be average temperatures.

They added: "Cloudy tomorrow morning with outbreaks of rain gradually clearing eastwards. Another spell of showery rain will spread from the southwest through the morning and afternoon, with some heavy bursts possible.

"Highest temperatures of 15 to 18 degrees with light to moderate southerly winds. Very high spring tides will mean a chance of coastal flooding."

There's rain coming this week

Things will clear up on Wednesday night and into Thursday, but there will still be some rain around Munster.

Met.ie said: Any remaining cloud and rain will clear from the northeast early on Wednesday night and the rest of the night will be dry in most areas with clear spells and patches of mist and fog.

"However, there'll be showers in some western and southern areas, some heavy. Lowest temperatures of 8 to 12 degrees in light to moderate southerly breezes."

There will be some sunshine on Thursday as the weather picks up ahead of a dry and bright weekend.

They continued: "Mild with sunny spells and scattered showers, some heavy with a chance of thunder. The showers will become isolated by evening. Highest temperatures of 13 to 16 degrees in light to moderate southerly or westerly breezes."
